About the Soapbox
Welcome to the Energy Soapbox, a place for all things green. We believe in energy conservation, green energy sources, sustainability, and fighting global warming. We believe that a little effort by a lot of people can make a difference - will you join us?
Explosive growth in manufacturing and technology throughout the 20th and 21st centuries has created an world filled with pollution and eco-damage. We insist, as a matter of convenience, to perpetuate old “dirty” technologies even as we advance in virtually every other technological area. It’s time to change.
This blog serves as a soapbox for a cadre of enviromentalist authors to share, aggregate, and analyze news and information about the effects of our ways on the planet - and to offer tips and suggestions how an individual is able to do their part to mitigate these effects.
We believe that the path to energy independence is won through optimizing our conservation efforts, developing new technology, and transitioning away from “dirty” energy sources. We do not believe that sacrifice has to be part of the equation - there is a smarter way.
For example, did you know that compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFL) use about 25% of the energy of their incandescent (standard) lightbulbs, but produce the same amount of light? Did you know that fluorescent bulbs have lifetimes measured in years, instead of hours? Simple things like this help reduce energy consumption, your electric bill, and needless waste in our landfills.
